Overall our project was successful in its execution of the initial idea. We searched through the newspaper, found the Rush Hour Crush section and decided to use that as our basis, as while it may not have been the most ‘newsworthy’ topic we could have chosen, it is a piece of everyday life- a more human interest sort of story.

We managed to plan our time effectively, so that when it came to the first shooting day and our two actors cancelled at last minute, we were able to reorganise for the next day with two people with drama performance experience so as not to eat into our edit time. This also meant that we had a lot of time to really consider the way the edit should look and flow- a key part of our decision to make a silent film. Our website was really well designed in the style of a newspaper and logically laid out. We made

sure to include all the research and meeting minutes that informed our creative process. We did our best to find out as much about the ‘Rush Hour Crush’ segment, and interestingly found out that occasionally people do end up getting together as a result of a personal ad put in there.

Scriptwriting was a bit more difficult, largely due to a clash of personalities and ideas. Eventually we settled on using a combination of the third and fourth script, tempered by our group’s tutorial conversation with Roshini.

The official shoot day itself went very smoothly, we managed to have planned all of the shots so that we were using the best light before the weather changed at noon, and we got a really wide variety of shots so that there would be lots to choose from in the edit.

With regards to the editing process, we had a rough version of the edit within the same day as our shoot. This enabled us all to have input with plenty of time to make creative decisions, such as not just having it be a silent film, but to actually look like a 20s silent film with a black and white colour scheme and inter-titles. This time also allowed us to give small feedback to our editor Brenda, regarding how long the inter-titles should be so that they can be easily read as well as the actual text on the inter-titles.

The final film has, in our opinion, come out really well, and we are all very proud of the work we have done.
